Jurgen Klopp expects Midtjylland to provide a stern test for Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday and has warned his troops to be ready for a fight (Match Betting – Liverpool 1/8, draw 9/1, Midtjylland 20/1).
Liverpool (13/2 Champions League Outright) made a winning start to their 2020-21 Champions League campaign as Nicolas Tagliafico’s own goal sealed a 1-0 win at Ajax last week.
They followed up that victory in Amsterdam with a 2-1 triumph at home to Sheffield United in the Premier League on Saturday to extend their unbeaten run to three games across all competitions.
Klopp is keen to see his men continue building momentum on home soil when Danish Superliga champions Midtjylland visit.
Midtjylland suffered a heavy 4-0 loss when Atalanta visited the MCH Arena on matchday one, although Klopp feels they will be up for a battle when they land on Merseyside.
Klopp said: “They are a bit more direct in their build up, really experienced defenders, speed on the wings, physicality up front. They have a clear plan. We need to show that we are ready for a proper fight.”
The Premier League champions will once again be without centre-back Virgil van Dijk, while Klopp has also confirmed Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and Joel Matip are unavailable due to injury.
When asked about the trio, Klopp added: “It’s still what I said last week, we look day by day.
“It looks like we will need a few more days. For tomorrow night, they probably will not be ready.”
