Daryl Gurney breathed new life into his Premier League Darts campaign with a big win over Chris Dobey but then revealed he was unhappy with his performance despite the 7-2 scoreline.

Going into Night Seven on Tuesday, Gurney was three points off safety with the player in last place in the table after Night Nine’s Judgement Night on Thursday to be eliminated, and he could have ill-afforded another defeat.

Luck was on his side as Dobey had a terrible evening, averaging just 79, while other results went his way, and Gurney was able to keep his hopes alive but accepts he will have to play much better if he is to survive.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Gurney said: “I have been practising so well, probably the best I ever have, then I walk up there and play that kind of tripe.

“I’m glad I got away with it and it gives me a chance now, but obviously it depends on what Rob and Gezzy do in their next few nights.

“I just want to and take my practice game up there and if I can take it up there, I can beat anybody.”

Night Eight takes place at the same Marshall Arena venue on Wednesday and Gurney will be taking on Nathan Aspinall, who is an 8/1 shot for outright glory, lying just a point off top spot in third.

Given their league positions, it is no surprise to see ‘The Asp’ – who beat Gerwyn Price 7-4 on Night Seven – installed as the 10/11 favourite, with ‘Super Chin’ available at 23/10 and the draw at 16/5.

Michael van Gerwen remains the 11/10 favourite to win the Premier League after he reclaimed top spot on leg difference on Tuesday with a 7-2 demolition of Rob Cross, with Glen Durrant (10/1) dropping a point in a 6-6 draw with Peter Wright (5/1) – with the top two going head to head on Wednesday night.

Elsewhere on Night Eight, Gary Anderson takes on Price, Michael Smith faces off against Cross, while Snakebite is up against Jeffrey de Zwaan.

There are a host of specials on offer at Betfred for the Night Eight action with Wright and de Zwaan the top two in the betting for the most 180’s at 9/2 and 5/1 respectively in what could be a thrilling climax to the evening.
