Stoke City travel to Leeds United in the only Championship match of the day, but one that could have a big effect on matters at both the top and bottom of the table (Match result – Leeds 4/9, Draw 7/2, Stoke 15/2).
While Leeds are charging towards the Premier League, the Potters are nervously looking over their shoulder with only one point separating them and the bottom three.
Michael O’Neill’s side sit 20th with five games remaining, with only Charlton Athletic, Hull City, Barnsley and Luton Town below them in the table.
However, with none of those four sides managing to pick up a win over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday’s fixtures, Stoke could put some daylight between themselves and the scrap at the bottom with three points.
A win against the Whites would push Stoke up to 17th, but Leeds have their own ambitions at the top of the table.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have the chance to return to the top of the table with a victory, but the pressure is on after West Brom beat Derby 2-0 on Wednesday, while Brentford and Fulham also won earlier in the week.
Leeds have only lost two of their last 17 matches in West Yorkshire, but O’Neill believes they have what it takes to frustrate Bielsa’s men.
He told the Stoke Sentinel: “Leeds, with the prize they’re playing for, would have a ferocious crowd there and we won’t have to deal with that.
“But we’ll still have to deal with a ferocious team in terms of how they’ll play.
“We can go, however, into the game with good confidence and believe we can go there and get a result. Not having the ball for long periods of the game doesn’t mean we can’t get a positive result. We’ve proven that. West Brom away was a perfect example of that, and a performance of that nature will be something we aim for again.”
Stoke have only lost one of their last four on the road in recent months in the Championship, and they are 9/5 to draw or win on Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, Betfred are offering a host of special markets on the game, including 5/2 on a penalty being awarded in the match.
