Michael Van Gerwen says he wants to get back at Rob Cross by beating him in the Premier League Darts play-off semi-finals (Van Gerwen 1/5, Cross 7/2 Match Betting).
Cross sensationally defeated the world number one in the last four at the 2018 World Championships at Alexandra Palace in his debut year in the competition.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest games of all time, Cross stunned the Dutchman in a sudden-death leg decider before going on to beat Phil Taylor 7-2 in the final.
Now the players face off in the semi-finals of the Premier League, with van Gerwen finishing top of the regular season standings, three points clear of Michael Smith in second, with Gary Anderson completing the play off line up in third.
Van Gerwen is, as ever, in a confident mood ahead of facing Cross, saying: “Rob’s not in the best form of his life, he’s not got that edge to him that he had in the World Championships when he beat me.
“But you always have to be careful with him because he is a danger.”
Indeed, Cross is winless in five Premier League matches since the middle of April, with a 7-2 loss against MVG included in the run which has seen the Sussex born thrower labour over the line to the semis.
And van Gerwen is aiming to capitalise on that lack of form to try and win the Premier League crown for a fourth time (Smith 12/5, Anderson 1/3 Match Betting).
“I like The O2, I like the tournament – it gives me a good target, week after week to fight for the points,” he added. “It’s difficult to win the Premier League year after year but I’m doing alright so far.” (Van Gerwen 1/2 Outright Betting).
